The American
Association of Orthodontists recommends that children
be evaluated by their dentist for possible orthodontic
problems by age 7. Because the permanent molars
and incisors usually are in the mouth by then,
potential loss of space may be able to be treated.
This interceptive technique may shorten future
orthodontic treatment.
Many children begin orthodontics when all or most
of the primary teeth have been lost, typically,
around 10-13 years old. At this age they are usually
excited to wear braces. For information on the
types of braces and band colors, please see our
Treatment and Patient
Information sections. |
